It is just as important to take care of and prepare the area before a wax as it is to take care of it after a wax. Follow these tips to ensure a quick appointment that is a little less painful, and remember to book your wax two days before you go on holiday, to allow the follicles enough time to close and the skin to calm down.
1 WEEK BEFORE:
β‘ Avoid use of retinoids, AHAs and other βharshβ skincare products that may cause irritation.
β‘ Avoid prolonged UV exposure to reduce the risk of burning. (If you have burnt skin, you will not be able to receive the treatment.)
β‘ No microdermabrasions or chemical peels.
24 HOURS BEFORE:
β‘ Ensure your hair is at least 0.5cm long. If it is your first time being waxed, hair growth should be around 1.5cm.
β‘ Exfoliate the area no sooner than 24 hours before your waxing appointment. This will keep the skin soft and smooth, and prevent ingrown hairs.
ON THE DAY:
β‘ Bathe or shower to open up follicles, allowing for easier hair removal and ensuring the area is clean from any products that can affect the treatment.
β‘ Do not apply any deodorants, make-up, lotions, soaps, powders, perfumes or self-tanning products to the area to be waxed.
β‘ No sunbeds or sunbathing.
β‘ You may take paracetamol if desired.
After your waxing treatment, you should expect the area to be red. Some may experience blood spots due to thicker, coarser hair, and the area may feel tender and tingle.
24 HOURS AFTER WAX:
β‘ No sunbathing, sunbeds, or any sunlight or UV exposure. Sweat can infect open follicles, and heat can irritate the waxed area.
β‘ Do not apply products such as deodorants, make-up, lotions, soaps, powders, perfumes or self-tanning products (including spray tans, alcohol products) to the waxed area
β‘ No hot baths or showers.
β‘ Avoid touching or scratching the waxed area.
β‘ Do not exfoliate the waxed area.
β‘ No tight-fitting clothes that may cause friction with the waxed area.
β‘ No saunas or steam rooms.
β‘ No exercise, including swimming.
β‘ To soothe and calm the skin, we suggest regularly applying an Aloe Vera gel. This will rehydrate the skin and reduce any discomfort you may experience. Tea tree oil can be applied to the area for its antiseptic properties, ensuring the area remains bacteria free. Savlon cream can also be used if needed.
β‘ You can start to exfoliate daily from day 2 to day 10 after your waxing service. This will help to prevent ingrown hairs. Remember to not over-exfoliate as this can cause damage to the skin. Follow your exfoliation with an enriching and nourishing moisturiser.
1 WEEK AFTER WAX:
β‘ Avoid use of retinoids, AHAs and other βharshβ skincare products that may cause irritation.
24 HOURS BEFORE:
β‘ Call us if you have less than 50% off your lashes left, we will need to allocate a larger booking.
